ANSA's Speaker Series is to recognize the Decade for People of African Descent and to create awareness about the Decade for all Nova Scotians. Dr. Julius Garvey is the son of Marcus Garvey, the founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) and regarded as the leader of the largest organized mass movement in Black history. Garvey's influence extended well beyond the United States to the Caribbean, Canada and Africa. While Dr. Julius Garvey has become accomplished and successful medical doctor, he continues to carry on his father’s legacy.
