Join us for an enlightening event dedicated to advancing rigorous historical scholarship and critical engagement with the experiences, contributions, and struggles of Black communities in the region. Bringing together leading historians, emerging scholars, and community-based researchers, this symposium foregrounds methodologically robust and critically engaged research that challenges dominant historical narratives and recovers marginalized voices. Participants will examine key themes such as the legacies of slavery and segregation, Black land ownership and displacement, education and activism, and the role of oral history in reconstructing collective memory. By fostering intellectual exchange and debate, this symposium contributes to the evolving field of Black Atlantic Canadian Studies, deepening our understanding of the historical forces that have shaped Black life in the region and reaffirming the necessity of scholarly inquiry in addressing historical injustices. This in-person event will be held at Dalhousie University - Kenneth C. Rowe Management Bldg, Room 1011. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about and to celebrate the diverse heritage of Black communities in Atlantic Canada!
