The Race Relations, Cross Cultural Understanding and Human Rights Division of the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education (AVRCE) would like to invite you and members of your organization to the first annual 2019 Soul Gala to celebrate African Nova Scotian communities and Africentricity in the Annapolis Valley. The Soul Gala will highlight Black Excellence through student and staff accomplishments. Being launched during the International Decade for People of African Descent 2015-2024, we will highlight, recognize and celebrate our progress of Africentricity within the Annapolis Valley. Our Soul Gala provides us with an opportunity to collaborate and work with other groups and organizations to increase the knowledge, understanding and education of equity, justice and racial pride as it pertains to African descent people.

On March 2, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 1:00 am, join us for a dinner and dance at Old Orchard Inn in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. The Soul Gala will look to bring together 150 community members from  across Nova Scotia and the African Diaspora for an evening of celebration, recognition and education.

Entertainers for the evening come from across the African Diaspora from local Annapolis Valley African Nova Scotian band, The Mark Riley Project (Rhythm and Blues/Funk band) to the East African group of Legacy for a New Generation. The evening will provide entertainment and education from East Africa to Nova Scotia. Lastly, in telling and supporting the story of commitment, justice and empowering the Black Community, the Soul Gala will introduce and host the Viola Desmond Award. The Viola Desmond Award is a bursary program to offer financial assistance to students who wish to go on to post-secondary education after high school graduation. The bursary recipients are selected each year based on demonstration of a commitment to education and empowering the Black Community, within the Annapolis Valley and the African Diaspora.
