Science Literacy Week highlights Canada’s outstanding scientists and science communicators from coast-to-coast. The goals are to showcase the excellence and diversity of Canadian science and to show how exciting science is!

Imhotep's Legacy Academy will offer two Science Literacy Week events on the same day, Students in grades 6-12 may participate.  Both events are open to the general public:

Event #1: 12:00pm - 2:30pm - Hands-on Science Activity:  Relative positions of the earth, moon, and sun In honor of Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut David Saint-Jacques' upcoming mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in December 2018, ILA Mentors will lead students through a hands-on science activity that offers an understanding of the important relationship between three celestial bodies--the earth, moon, and sun--and their effects on each other.

Event #2: 2:30pm - 4:30pm - ILA STEM Quiz Tournament Students compete to test their knowledge about various STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) topics (including the inventions, innovations, and contributions of persons of African heritage to these fields).  Teams buzz-in to answer STEM-related questions posed by the QuizMaster. Tablets will be awarded to all members of the winning team with the highest score! An ILA STEM Quiz Bowl Study Guide will be provided for review in preparation for the competition.
