The Diversity and Equity Committee (DEC) Research Conversation Series, School of Social Work, Dalhousie University Commemorates African Heritage Month with an interactive “Discussion on Mental Health and Substance Use with Youth of African Descent.” The event is scheduled for 5:30pm to 7:30pm (Atlantic

Time) on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) funded project explores how mental health and substance use systems of care that serve the needs of youth can become more responsive to the diverse needs of youth of African descent and their families or caregivers. This presentation will share how commitment to Afrocentricity, Critical Race Theory, and Postcoloniality informed our process. The results of this project will ultimately inform pan-Canadian standards of care.
