Celebrate African Heritage Month through Stories
The McConnell Library is pleased to host playwright and storyteller David Woods alongside local author and storyteller Wanda Robson for an evening of stories and experiences of African Nova Scotian’s around the time of the Halifax Explosion.
In celebration of African Heritage Month, Woods has created a 60-minute photo and storytelling presentation from his new play, Extraordinary Acts.
Extraordinary Acts marks the first broad investigation of African Nova Scotian experiences during the time of the Halifax Explosion.
Robson’s storytelling has brought national recognition and honour to her sister, Viola Desmond, now famous for her personal actions to fight racism and discrimination in a Nova Scotia theatre in 1946. Wanda wrote the book Sister to Courage to document Viola’s inspiring story. Robson’s family history touches on the Halifax Explosion also, as another sister Emily Clyke
(103 years) of Montreal is one of the last living survivors of the Explosion.
