In this short film we meet Josh Crooks, an African-Canadian hockey player who discovers that his passion is tied to a remarkable heritage. An intimate story of trans-generational identity, Ice Breakers reveals the buried history of how Black athletes helped pioneer modern hockey. The film is 15 minutes long and will be followed by a discussion about issues of inequality in hockey in Nova Scotia with special guests from the Black Cultural Centre of Nova Scotia, Canada Post and more.

Canada’s Storytellers: Ice Breakers is presented in partnership with the National Film Board of Canada.
